Home Based V/S Center Based Therapy in Brampton

ABA therapy practice locations: Is one better or more effective than the other?

Perhaps you know that applied behavior analysis, or ABA, is the most effective treatment for children with autism. However, when it comes to ABA therapy locations, you may wonder whether home-based is better than center-based ABA, or vice versa.

Sensational Kidz Therapy Services provides both home-based and center-based ABA because each location offers unique treatment benefits.

*At the moment we are accepting kids for In Center ABA Therapy only*

Understanding the benefits of different ABA therapy locations

Autism doesn’t affect just one area of your child’s life, so ABA shouldn’t be confined to only one location. By utilizing multiple ABA therapy locations, the treatment team at Sensational Kidz can help you address concerns in different areas.

Home-based therapy allows our therapists to provide treatment in everyday situations in your home, whereas center-based therapy allows them to perform ABA in a structured environment in our centers. Each location offers unique benefits.

Although the locations are different, you can count on two constants. Your child will receive highly effective, evidence-based ABA therapy from our experienced team. You will also be involved in the process, as the SKTS family believes that ABA is most effective when the child’s family plays an active role in the treatment process.

Developing an individualized treatment plan

The treatment professionals at Sensational Kidz know that each child has unique needs. You will work with your child’s therapist to determine the best therapy environment for him or her. Our goal is to treat the children who walk through our doors with a customized ABA treatment plan designed to help them become happy and productive members of their families, communities and world.

Transition Program in Brampton

1:1 to Group based learning

The main goal of the transition program is to bridge the gap between 1:1 intensive ABA format and a group learning environment.

The transition program is designed to help students gain the necessary skills and to make their transition into a school or day care setting as seamless as possible. This program also focuses on targeting social skills such as attending to teachers and peers, following group instructions, learning, responding and generalizing skills in a group environment etc. Students who participate in this program are assigned a 1:1 instructor to assist in learning and generalizing the skills. Instructors would fade their presence allowing learners learn and respond independently and prompt only as required.

Some of the skills targeted this program

  • Attending to teacher and peers

  • Responding to group instructions- Everyone does the same response

  • Independent activity schedule

  • Asks for the attention of teachers and students independently

  • Engaging with peers in group activities

  • Turn taking

  • Sharing

Participation in the Transition Program is based on the client’s progress in 1:1 therapy. The goal of this program would be to learn skills which would allow them to effectively transition into a group learning environment and transition out of our services.

Group Based ABA Therapy Program in Brampton

While traditional ABA therapy is often one-on-one, group therapy offers unique benefits, especially for practicing and generalizing social behaviors with peers. Participating in group sessions helps children generalize the social and behavioral skills they learn in one-on-one ABA sessions. It allows them to apply these skills in different contexts with various individuals, ensuring they can use what they’ve learned outside the therapy room. Group ABA therapy can be an effective way for children to practice social skills, build friendships, and generalize positive behaviors, all within a supportive and structured environment.

Participants will work on building the key skills needed to thrive in group settings, with programs and activities customized to their individual needs and interests. The ratio for the group program is 2:5.

Speech & Language Therapy Brampton

At Sensational Kidz, we offer in-center Speech and language therapy for children, with a full-time team of Speech-Language Pathologists and Communication Disorders Assistants dedicated to supporting their needs. Our professionals provide targeted interventions and strategies for children requiring speech therapy, including one-on-one sessions for those needing personalized attention. Speech therapy can benefit children in the following ways:

  • Improved Communication Skills:

Speech therapists help children develop essential communication skills, whether verbal or non-verbal, enabling them to express their needs and thoughts more effectively.

  • Social Interaction Support:

Speech therapy focuses on enhancing social communication, teaching children how to initiate conversations, maintain eye contact, and interpret non-verbal cues, which improves peer interactions.

  • Addressing Language Delays:

Children may encounter delays in language development. Speech therapy targets vocabulary building, sentence structure, and language comprehension to support better understanding and expression.

  • Behavioral Support:

By improving communication, speech therapy can reduce frustration-related behaviors, such as tantrums or aggression, that often arise from the inability to express oneself.

  • Personalized Learning:

Speech therapists tailor their approach to each child's unique communication style, whether through spoken language, sign language, or alternative communication methods like picture exchange systems (PECS) or assistive devices.

  • Enhancing Cognitive Skills:

Speech therapy can also help improve problem-solving, memory, and attention span, leading to better overall learning outcomes.

  • Building Confidence:

As communication improves, children gain confidence in expressing themselves, leading to greater independence and participation in daily activities.

  • Family Support:

Speech therapists also work closely with families, providing guidance on how to reinforce communication skills at home and support the child’s ongoing development.

  • Behavioral Support:

  • Structured Routines:

A predictable daily schedule to support children who thrive on consistency.

  • Life Skills Training:

Activities that promote independence, such as dressing, eating, and personal hygiene tasks.

  • Parent Support and Guidance:

Opportunities for parents to learn strategies to continue skill-building at home.

Parent training program

ABA therapy is most effective when consistent across environments. By training parents, they can implement the same strategies and behavioral interventions at home that are used during therapy sessions. This ensures that the child receives a unified approach to learning and behavior management, reinforcing progress made in therapy. Parents are taught how to support their child’s communication efforts, whether verbal or non-verbal. Learning techniques like prompting, modeling, and reinforcing communication skills helps parents encourage their child to express their needs and wants in more appropriate ways. This is exclusively available to parents of children enrolled in ABA therapy or group ABA therapy programs.

Social skills- “The Social connection”

Social skills are essential for children's understanding of life and their overall development. As children grow and encounter new social settings, whether at school, in extracurricular activities, or later in life—they need strong social skills to adapt, make friends, and thrive in unfamiliar environments. We focus on teaching these skills through a variety of approaches, including one-on-one sessions, group programs with a 2:5 ratio, or individualized support within a group setting. Our approach is tailored to each child's unique goals and current skill level, ensuring that we provide the most effective support for their growth.

Respite Services

This full-day group respite program is designed for children and teens aged 8-17, offering a variety of engaging activities to help participants build connections. From icebreaker games and arts & crafts to science experiments, interactive games, life skills, group collaborations, recreational activities such as baking, simulations, there's something for everyone to enjoy. These sessions are held in-center between the hours of 9 AM to 6 PM from Monday-Friday. Pre-registration and advance scheduling are mandatory. We will schedule placement and assessment sessions for all students. These sessions help us assess the appropriate support ratio and ensure the program is a great fit for each individual’s needs. The Respite Program is designed and supervised by a Registered Behavior Analyst (RBA).
